SUMTER ART ASSOCIATION

The first meeting of The Sumter Art Association for 2017-18 was held Sept. 19 at the Parish Life Building of the Church of the Holy Comforter. President Patti Sosnowski welcomed 54 members and two guests and recognized new members Susan Brabham, Jane Collins, Kathy Dubose, Beth Jackson and Norma Tolbert. Ginger Jones gave a devotional and opened the meeting with a prayer.

Linda Hogan announced numerous cultural events, both current and upcoming, taking place in Sumter and the surrounding area.

Following a brief business meeting, Dottie Lyles introduced Sumter native, Graphic Design Artist and Brand Man, Gil Shuler. Gil started drawing at the age of 6. After eight years of private lessons under Mildred White, a still-life oil painter, Gil found his creative niche in graphic design his sophomore year at Western Carolina University. With Gil's love of fishing, he moved to Charleston and established Gil Shuler Graphic Design in 1985. GSGD makes art for commercial purposes: full branding exercises, logos/icons, books, posters, packaging, signage systems, interactive and illustration.
