Crestwood High alumnus named local St. Leo University director

A former Crestwood High School graduate is returning to Sumter for a college-level director position.

In a news release Thursday, Saint Leo University announced that Terrance Gilmore has recently been named as director of the university's Shaw Education Center, which is based at Shaw Air Force Base and also has an education office at Wise Drive Baptist Church, 2751 S. Wise Drive.

A Santee native, Gilmore moved to Sumter as a teenager and was a member of the first graduating class of Crestwood in 1997.

Saint Leo's Shaw Education Center will host an open house and introduce Gilmore as its new director Sept. 10 at the education office location at the Sumter church, according to the release. The event will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Gilmore earned his Bachelor's Degree in Child and Family Development from Benedict College in Columbia in 2002. He also holds a Master's Degree in Management from Southern Wesleyan University.

Gilmore is no stranger to the world of higher education with more than 10 years of experience working at several colleges and universities in the state, including Sumter-based Morris College, Webster University also based on Shaw, Claflin University in Orangeburg and Limestone College in Gaffney. He currently lives in Columbia.

Saint Leo's Shaw Education Center and Sumter Education Office offer associate and bachelor's degrees, the release states.

Three Associate of Arts degrees are offered locally in business administration, criminal justice and liberal arts. The college offers several bachelor's degrees locally to include: criminal justice, criminal justice-criminalistics, criminal justice-homeland security, human resource management, human services, business administration-management, business administration-technology management, computer information systems and health care management.

College registration is underway for the Fall 2 Semester, which runs from Oct. 15 through Dec. 9.
