David Briggs was born on Oct. 31, 1926 to the late Frank Briggs Sr. and Lizzie Belcer Briggs. He departed this life on Jan. 14, 2018, early Sunday morning.

Mr. Briggs met and married Mary Ether Spears. He then moved his family to Florida. After a number of years, he moved to Brooklyn, New York, where he remained until he retired. Upon retirement, he moved back to Mayesville to take care of his ill mother before her passing. From Florida to Sumter, where he settled at Shiloh-Randolph Manor. He was preceded in death by Cornel Roy Briggs, Vincent John Briggs, Leroy Briggs, Frank Briggs Jr., William Briggs, Rachel Crawford, Susie Briggs, Lucille Rose and Hester Jackson.

He leaves to cherish his memories his children: David Briggs Jr., James Henry Briggs, William Briggs, Ronald Briggs, Rosa B. Flagg, Gloria Ann Briggs, Rutha Arterberry, Jennifer Briggs Anderson; grandchildren: Veronique Hayes, Esria Hayes, Vernon L. Briggs, Clifton T. Briggs, Cedric Briggs, James Briggs, Jr., Lanora Briggs, Victory Briggs, Carl Chisholm, Dexter Briggs, William Briggs, D'Andre C. Briggs, Felicia Israel, Daveed Flagg, Jayla Flagg, Rochelle Henmy, Brittney Pete, Kezia M. Arterberry, Mercedes L. Arterberry and Sierra L. Arterberry; two sisters, Jannie Montgomery and Mary Miller.

Public viewing will be held today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Briggs will be placed in the church on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 at 10 a.m. for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Jan. 22, 2018 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Missionary Church, 219 S. Washington St.. Sumter, with Pastor George P. Windley Jr. officiating.

Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. Family will receive friends at 2130 Ave. B, Mayesville.

Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., is in charge of arrangements.
