Dillon Park hosting 2 events Saturday

The new year has begun, and Sumter County invites residents to take part in two activities Saturday at Dillon Park.

Between 7 and 10 a.m., free mulch made from discarded Christmas trees will be distributed to residents by volunteers on a first-come, first-served basis at Grinding of the Greens. Enter Dillon Park from Frontage Road, and bring containers or bags, tools to pick up mulch and a way to haul it.

After getting mulch to refresh your yard and help limit landfill expansions, try doing something good for your body. Join Sumter County Active Lifestyles in a walk with members of Sumter County Council around the 1-mile refurbished paved walking track at the park. Participants may also choose to continue their walk on the natural surface Cypress Trail, which originates close to the track.

This walk offers community members a good way to get started, continue their efforts or improve individual health. It is a great time to visit informally with Sumter County Council members, strengthen relationships within the community and make new friends.

The walk around the track starts at 10 a.m. with registration beginning at 9:30 a.m. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes, and bring water for hydration. The sun will be shining, so consider wearing sunscreen.

For more information about walking, call (803) 469-6509.
