Born on Aug. 25, 1931, in Dalzell, she was a daughter of the late Rev. Dr. Levi W. and Ella Mae Davis Williams. She attended the public schools of Sumter County. She graduated with honors from Morris College, Sumter. Her career began in Estill County and later she moved to Sumter County, where she taught first grade for many years. She used many of her talents to enrich the lives of her students.
At an early age, Dorothy joined Joshua Baptist Church, where she was a member of the choir, Missionary Society and the Williams Family Singers.
She leaves to cherish her memories: one son, Anthony (Gwenevere) Smalls of Sumter; one daughter, Pamela V. Smalls Tolbert of Sumter; five sisters, Edith W. Wiggins of Tennille, Georgia, Rosa W. Williams of Cheraw, Queen W. Spann of Sumter, Ruth W. King of Clinton, Maryland, and Irene W. (Eugene) Curry of Union, New Jersey; two brothers, the Rev. Roosevelt (Berneatha) Williams and Thomas L. Williams of Sumter; two sisters-in-law; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two aunts, Dessie Davis of Sumter and Charlie Mae Davis of Newark, New Jersey; one uncle, Edward Davis (Shirley) of Bishopville; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 110 Perkins Ave., Sumter.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Joshua Baptist Church, 5200 Live Oak Road, Dalzell, with the Rev. Eugene G. Dennis, pastor, eulogist.
Wake service will be held from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the John Wesley Williams Sr. Memorial Chapel, Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter.
The remains will be placed in the church at 1 p.m.
The funeral procession will leave at 1:15 p.m. from the home.
Burial will be at Joshua Baptist Churchyard Cemetery.
