A 24-year-old is facing driving under the influence charges after a vehicle made an uninvited appearance to the front door of a house on Alice Drive.

Officers responded to a single-vehicle crash about 3:45 a.m. on Aug. 24 and found a 2007 Infiniti slammed between a home in the 100 block of Alice Drive and a Chevrolet Tahoe, which had been sitting in the driveway, according to Tonyia McGirt, public information officer for the Sumter Police Department.

A preliminary investigation indicates Chenique Lashae Richardson, of Lakewood Drive, was traveling south on Alice Drive when she veered off the road to the left and struck a guide wire before going through the front yard of the home and hitting the parked Tahoe and then the house.

Richardson was treated at the scene for minor injuries, McGirt said. No one else was involved or injured.

She said evidence at the scene indicated the driver had been drinking.

Richardson refused a breath analysis and was booked into Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center and charged with DUI and cited for open container.

An investigation is continuing.
