East Brewington Road bridge replacement to begin, detours set

Posted

South Carolina Department of Transportation plans to replace the structurally deficient bridge on East Brewington Road near Sumter in Sumter County. This bridge is being replaced with a new 70-foot pre-stressed concrete bridge. The bridge will be closed on April 16 for approximately 15 weeks.

Pending any delays due to weather conditions, fabricator delays, etc., the bridge should be reopened to traffic by July 30.

Because of relatively low traffic volumes and to minimize the construction duration, cost and impact to property owners in the area, the road will be closed and traffic detoured during construction. The plan is for the detour to use roads S-43-41 (Eastern School Road), U.S. 378 and U.S. 76. The net additional detour length will be approximately 4.9 miles.

Sumter County schools may be impacted, and they will be informed of the pending road closure to reroute school bus traffic in the area. There are no major businesses that will be impacted.
