Facebook is about to shift focus away from what’s going on in your community by letting less local news stories on your News Feed. We think local news is important. And necessary.

So, we’re giving you the steps to keep The Sumter Item on your feed by changing the default settings Facebook is rolling out.

How to keep seeing your community’s local news on your phone or tablet

Go to The Sumter Item’s Facebook page.

If you’re not already following us, click “Like” and “Follow.”


If you already are, click on “Following.”

Click “See First.”


How to change your settings on a desktop or laptop

Go to The Sumter Item’s Facebook page.


Make sure you see “Liked” and “Following.”

Roll your cursor over “Following,” and click “See First” and “On.”


You can customize how you’re notified when we post something new by clicking the pencil icon to the right.
Now you can be sure you’ll stay up to date on what’s going on around Sumter County.
