Funeral services for Frank Mitchell, 76, who died peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, after a long battle with cancer, will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday in the chapel of Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home. The Rev. Jeff Steen will officiate. Burial will follow at Red Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. today.
Hancock-Elmore-Hill Funeral Home is serving the family.
Mr. Mitchell was born in Goldsboro, North Carolina, a son of the late Aldon Frank Mitchell Sr. and Pearl Susan Killette. He was a member of Red Hill Baptist Church. He retired as a crop duster and truck driver. His passion was entertaining people with his music and jokes and taking people for rides in the airplane. He also loved playing Frisbee and trips to the beach. Most of all, he loved making people laugh. He was a peacemaker and a Master Mason.
He is survived by his loving wife, Katherine Holland Mitchell of Bishopville; sons, Aldon F. Mitchell III and Robbie Newman, both of Bishopville; daughters, Susan (Pete) Moree of Darlington and Lydia (Bob) Mills of Princeton, North Carolina; sisters, Marjorie Hester and Lorene Stanley, both of Goldsboro, North Carolina; grandchildren, Michael Mitchell, Josie Mitchell, Tiffanie Mitchell, Kyle Mitchell and Ryan (Anna) Newman; and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie Tillman Mitchell; and brother, Marvin Mitchell.
