He was born on Nov. 22, 1952, in Sumter, a son of the late Prince and Mary Knox Carter. George was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. He attended Sumter High School and graduated in the Class of 1971. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Marines Corps. He attended Ebenezer Presbyterian Church during his childhood family life. While living in Paterson, he attended Christ Temple Baptist Church. George was a loving and giving person. He loved helping his family and friends. He gave advice even if you didn't ask him, but he meant well. He enjoyed reading his Bible and praying for people, especially the sick. He loved reciting one of his favorite passages of scripture, Psalm 23 (The Lord is my Shepherd). In his spare time, he loved pampering and washing his car and listening to old school music.

George leaves to mourn his passing: a loving and devoted companion of 37 years, Betty Quick of Paterson; three children, Laselle of Sumter, and Elizabeth and Donovan of Paterson; four grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Carter Durant; one brother, Sidney Carter (Dollie Mae) of Sumter; one niece reared in the home with him, Mable Carter Floyd (Johnny) of Sumter; three sisters-in-law, Pearl Carter and Joellen Carter of Paterson and Dollie Mae Carter of Sumter; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Prince Carter Jr., Abraham Carter and Edward Carter; two sisters, Daisy Carter Williams and Mary Carter Hannibal; and two bothers-in-Law, Thomas Edward Durant Sr. and Robert Hannibal.
