HAROLD N. KIRKLAND

The Rev. Harold Norman Kirkland, age 87, died on Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, in his home in Sumter.

Rev. Kirkland was born on Dec. 25, 1930, in Ulmers, a son of the late John Eldon Kirkland Sr. and Annie Lou Dickinson Kirkland.

He was predeceased by his four older siblings, including sisters, Evelyn Kirkland Roberts, Rae Kirkland Sibley and Mel Kirkland Rizer; and his brother, John Eldon Kirkland Jr.

Rev. Kirkland is survived by his wife, Uldine Shockley Kirkland; his son, Stephen Patrick Kirkland (Janie) of Chapin; daughters, Louanne Kirkland of Chapin and Kathleen Kirkland Brunson (Robert) of Sullivan's Island; and four grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his son, Dana Dunbar Kirkland.

After attending public schools in Allendale County, he received degrees from Furman University and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. He pastored only three churches in more than 70 years of ministry, First Baptist Church of Wagener, First Baptist Church of Sumter and The Church of our Savior, Sumter.

A private memorial service and burial were held on Sunday and directed by Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home.
