Born on Nov. 29, 1943, in Lee County, she was a daughter of the late Susie Mae "Isabella" Williams. "Mae Mae," as she was affectionately known, attended the public schools of Lee County. She relocated to Brooklyn, New York, where she met and married the love of her life, the late Silas Curley Berry. Upon her husband's retirement, they moved back to South Carolina and joined Unionville AME Church.
She leaves to cherish her memories: four daughters, Joanne Wilder of the home, Gwendolyn Berry, Charline Berry and Pamela Berry of New York; a son, Michael Berry of the home; two grandchildren who were reared in the home, Clarence Williams of Brooklyn and Shaniqua Berry of Fredericksburg, Virginia; four sisters, Cornell Wilson of Mayesville, Louretta Gamble of Sumter, Neola McLeod and Rosetta Williams of Bishopville; 13 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephew, other relatives and friends.
The family is receiving relatives and friends at the home, 122 St. Charles Road, Bishopville.
Homegoing services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Unionville AME Church, 1330 Swimming Pen Road, Mayesville, with the Rev. Alvin Webb, pastor, eulogist.
The remains will be placed in the church at 10 a.m.
The funeral procession will leave at 10:30 a.m. from the home.
Burial will be at the Unionville AME Churchyard Cemetery.
These services have been entrusted to the management and staff of Williams Funeral Home Inc., 821 N. Main St., Sumter.
