HATTIE M. DUNCAN
Mrs. Hattie Mae Duncan, the wife of the late Henry Duncan Jr., was born Dec. 18, 1929 in Wedgefield to the late Hopkins and Sally Ann Thomas Washington Jr.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two children, Henry Duncan III and Rebecca Duncan; three brothers, James Washington, Frank Washington Sr. and Leroy Washington; and two sisters, Dorothy Mae Taylor and Lillian W. Wright.
Mother Duncan transitioned into eternity on Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018 in Sumter.
Mother Duncan is survived by four children, Vermelle Whittleton, Helen Duncan, Rovenia (Kelvin) King and Louvenia Duncan; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Rovenia Harris, Naomi Polk, Sally (Marion) Green and Susan Sims; two brothers, Harry (Hattie) Washington and Matthew (Barbara) Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at noon at the Orangehill AME Church, 3035 Hwy. 261 South, Wedgefield, SC, with the Rev. Gregory Williams, pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
A public viewing will be held on Tuesday from 1 to 6 p.m. at the mortuary.
The family is receiving friends at the home of her daughter, Vermelle Whittleton, 9 Kenilworth Ave., Sumter, SC.
