Hayes, F. Samuels Jr., 74, husband of Yvonne James Samuels, and owner of Samuels Funeral Home of Manning and co-owner of Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home, Lake City, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at McLeod Health Clarendon, Manning. He was born Oct. 23, 1943, in Sumter, a son of the late Hayes F. Samuels Sr. and LaNelle Jackson Samuels.

Hayes' tremendous successes to making the world a better place are innumerable. In every task, no matter the size, type or significance of the organization, he served with distinction, diligence and excellence. For his efforts, he was the recipient of countless recognition, awards and certificates. The organizations to which he contributed his vast skills and talents and his many accomplishments include, among others: owner, Samuels Funeral Home; co-owner, Samuels and Richardson Funeral Home; coroner, Clarendon County; member, South Carolina State Board of Funeral Services; past governor, Sixth Congressional District Morticians Association; member, National Morticians Association; past chair, South Carolina Morticians Association Convention; member, NBSC Advisory Board; member, Spring Hill Masonic Lodge No. 188. Alpha Chapter No. 5, Royal Arch Mason and Omega Knights Temple; Business Person of the Year, Bank of Clarendon and Clarendon County Chamber of Commerce 2016-17; recipient, Chairman's Award, Clarendon County Democratic Party, 2014; recipient, State Professional of the Year, South Carolina Morticians Association, 79th Annual Convention, 2004; recipient, State Professional of the Year, Sixth Congressional District Morticians Association Professional of the Year; first recipient, National Council of Negro Women Award for Business and Economics 2000; Purchase of "My First Book" for St. Paul Primary, Manning Primary and Walker Gamble Primary Schools; life member, Clarendon Branch of NAACP; and lifetime member, Trinity AME Church.

Wake services will be held at 5 p.m. today in the Hayes F. Samuels Sr. Memorial Chapel, 114 N. Church St., Manning.

Celebratory services for Mr. Samuels will be held noon, Monday, Jan. 22 at Weldon Auditorium, 7 Maple St., Manning. Rev. Jerome McCray, presiding; Rev. Bennie Colclough, eulogist; Franklin Colclough, Rev. Courtney Colleton and Rev. Charles Smith, assisting. Burial will follow in Clarendon Memorial Gardens, Manning.
