LIST UPDATED THURSDAY: Closings and cancellations for Hurricane Florence in Sumter, Lee and Clarendon counties

Following is a list of current and upcoming closures and cancelations related to Hurricane Florence in Sumter, Lee and Clarendon counties and affecting South Carolina. Keep checking back here for updates to the list as we find them out.

As of now, no decision has been made about the closure of Sumter city or county offices, according to Joe Perry, spokesman for the county. Representatives from the City of Sumter, Sumter County Government, Sumter Fire Department, Sumter Police Department, Sumter County Sheriff's Office, Sumter County Emergency Medical Services and Sumter County Coroner's Office met Tuesday afternoon to discuss the potential impact from Florence on the area.

The Church Women United Annual Salad Luncheon scheduled for Sept. 22 at St. James Luthern Church on Alice Drive has been postponed until further notice. Tickets that have already been purchased will be accepted at the rescheduled luncheon, which will be announced at a later date.

All offices of Sumter Family Health Center will be closed Friday, Sept. 14. Offices include: Sumter Family Health Center, Pinewood Health Center, Carolina Women’s Specialists and Carolina Dental Associates.

City of Sumter and Sumter County Government offices will be closed Thursday, Sept. 13 and Friday, Sept. 14, with an anticipated return to a normal schedule on Monday, Sept. 17 at 8:30 a.m.

City of Sumter trash, recycling and debris pickup is canceled for Friday but is expected to resume normal services on Monday.

The Clarendon School District 2 regular monthly Board of Trustees meeting is being reshceuled for Tuesday, Sept. 25 at 5:30 p.m. at the district office.

The Sumter County Museum will have free admission from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13 and will be closed on Friday and Saturday.

The Temple Sinai Jewish History Center will be closed Thursday, Sept. 13 through Saturday, Sept. 15.

The Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce will be closed Thursday, Sept. 13 and Friday, Sept. 14.

The Sumter office of the USDA Service Center will be closed Thursday, Sept. 13 and Friday, Sept. 15.

The University of South Carolina will be closed and classes are canceled for Wednesday, Sept. 12 and until further notice per Gov. Henry McMaster's order, according to Jeff Strensland at the Office of Communications and Public Affairs. Essential personnel should report to campus on Wednesday. Essential student services, including housing, food service and the Student Health Center will continue to operate. As a state agency, the university follows the delay and closing determinations of Richland County Government.

Central Carolina Technical College has canceled its Thursday, Sept. 13 job fair. CCTC may reschedule the event at a later date.

The Optimist Club in Manning has moved its regular meeting to Thursday, Sept. 27. New club members will be inducted at this meeting. The club’s fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 15 has been moved to Saturday, Sept. 29.

USC Sumter is closed until further notice. A Carolina Alert will be sent when campus reopens and classes resumes.

Robert E. Lee Academy will be closed Wednesday, Sept. 12 through Friday, Sept. 14.

Thomas Sumter Academy will be open Wednesday, Sept. 12 but will not hold athletic events and will be closed Thursday and Friday.

The Clarendon County Administrative Offices will close at noon on Wednesday, Sept. 12 and will remain closed on Thursday and Friday.

Clarendon Hall will close at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 11 and will remain closed Sept. 12-14. All athletic events and practices are canceled, including those scheduled for Tuesday. A normal scheduled is planned to begin again on Monday, Sept. 17. 

All events scheduled for National Assisted Living Week, which is Sept. 9-15, at Brookdale Sumter have been canceled.

Clarendon County government offices are open on Tuesday, Sept. 111 during normal business hours but will be closed on Thursday and Friday.

The Sumter County Battle of the Badges blood drive event schedule for Friday, Sept. 14 has been canceled.

Manning City Council has rescheduled its regular monthly meeting from Monday, Sept. 17 to Monday, Sept. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at Manning City Hall, 29 W. Boyce St.

Laurence Manning Academy will be closed Wednesday, Sept. 12, Thursday Sept. 13 and Friday, Sept. 14, according to Jessica McFaddin, director of public information for the Manning-based school.

Public schools in Sumter, Lee and Clarendon counties are closed Tuesday, Sept. 11 and will be until further notice, according to an executive order from Gov. Henry McMaster that local school district officials confirmed. Inland school facilities and buses may be needed for emergency shelters and transportation to help the expected one million coastal evacuees.

Saint Leo University is closing its South Carolina locations, and classes are canceled. The school’s North Charleston, Shaw Air Force Base and Sumter locations are closed Tuesday, Sept. 11 and will remain closed through Friday, Sept. 14, according to Mary McCoy, university write and media relations. University officials anticipate reopening all locations on Monday, Sept. 17. Students, faculty and staff are asked to check the Saint Leo website for updates.

The Palmetto Tennis Center Invitational has been postponed due to the threat of Hurricane Florence, the tennis center announced Tuesday morning. A new tournament date will be announced.
