It's reassuring that some parents teach children to be respectful

As a military veteran, hardly a day goes by that some thoughtful citizen doesn't express their gratitude to me for my small contribution to the nation's security. Makes me proud of the 20 years I served and proud to be an American.

As I was departing a dining establishment on Broad Street, Sumter, on May 30 I heard a lady's voice from behind me say, "Mister." I looked back over my shoulder and saw a young lady and a little girl. Not realizing they were speaking to me, I turned and started to walk away, when once again I heard her say, "mister." I turned to notice the young lady pointing toward the little girl who appeared to be about four or five years old walking toward me. She stopped a couple of feet from to me, looked up at me and humbly said, "Thank you for your service."

It is reassuring to see that there are still some young parents who are teaching their children to be respectful; gives me hope that our country might still be a great country.
