James Dewey Munson, age 78, beloved husband of 49 years to Marguerite Ann Munson, died on Friday, Sept. 28, 2018, at Palmetto Heath Tuomey.

Born on April 30, 1940, in Charlevoix, Michigan, he was the son of the late James Lucas Munson and Dorothy Kelts Munson Leslie, both of Boyne City, Michigan.

Mr. Munson was a graduate of Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

He worked in his family-owned paint restoration business and served in the US Army. He retired from civil service after 28 years as a ground equipment specialist.

He enjoyed hunting and was a collector of old guns.

He was a member of the Sumter Baptist Temple for 29 years, where he served the church as a deacon.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his three siblings, Kenneth Munson and his wife Sharon of Birch Run, Michigan, Thomas Munson and his wife Diane of Boyne City, Michigan, and Cindy Lutz and her husband Michael of Alanson, Michigan; his 96-year-old aunt, Betty Munson of Petoskey, Michigan; and his uncle, Atwood Kelts and his wife Joan of Davison, Michigan.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday at Sumter Baptist Temple with the Rev. Mike Westmoreland and the Rev. Eddie Richardson officiating.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the church.
