Born in Waco, Texas, he was the son of the late James Herbert Marshall and Joan Hernandez Marshall. James loved sports and was an avid Coca-Cola collector. He was a loving and supportive husband and father, who will be remembered for his great personality.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Rebecca, are: two children, Andrew Marshall of Sumter and Lydia Johnston and her husband, Brent, of Charleston; two brothers, Philip Marshall and his wife, Carla, of Sumter and David Marshall of Clayton, Georgia; along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Marshall; grandmother, Mrs. Marjorie Polhemus and a brother, Bruce Marshall.
A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Bullock Funeral Home.
