Janette Herriott Wright, wife of CWall Lyons, died on Monday, Nov. 20, 2017, at Palmetto Health Tuomey.
Born in Oswego, she was a daughter of the late Douglas Herriott Sr. and Maggie L. McLeod Herriott. She attended school in Sumter County and was a 1962 graduate of Eastern High School. She continued her education at Sumter Technical School in the area of early childhood education. Early in life, she became a member of Antioch United Methodist Church, where she served faithfully as a communion steward, church usher, director of the Acolyte Ministry and a member of the United Methodist Women.
Those left to cherish her memories are CWall Lyons of Sumter; a son, retired Master Sgt. Ward Jermaine Wright (Ashley) of Havelock, North Carolina; one brother, Douglas Harriott Jr. (Rose); two sisters, Rosa Lee Herriott McDuffie and Maggie Herriott McCants (Presiding Elder R.L. Rt.) of Sumter; two stepsons, CWall Lyons Jr. of Daytona Beach, Florida, and Mark Lyons (Jessica) of Beckley, West Virginia; three stepdaughters, Mary Alice Lyons Laws (Robert), Opradella Lyons Chamberlain (Phillip) of Sumter and Tiffiany Moore (Lerone) of Columbia; three grandchildren, 23 step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Celebration of life service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Antioch United Methodist Church, 4040 Dubose Siding Road, Sumter, with the Rev. Raymond Cook Jr., pastor, officiating. Assisting will be the Rev. Lawrence Cantey Jr., Dr. Ruth McCants Locke, the Rev. Calvin Hastie and Pastor Michael James.
Mrs. Wright will be placed in the church at noon for viewing until the hour of service. Burial will follow at Antioch Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 6 p.m. today in the chapel of Sumter Funeral Service and other times at the home, 712 S. Sumter St., Sumter.
The staff of Sumter Funeral Service Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
