Joe Hazel Bryant, 80, husband of Bridget Ann Bryant Bryant, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 8, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his family with his wife holding his hand to the end.

Born on April 27, 1938, in the Home Branch community of Manning, he was a son of the late Sphinks Thomas Bryant Sr. and Pearl Ruby Hodge Bryant. He was the owner and operator of J&A Trucking, and he was an avid fisherman. He was a member of Home Branch Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife of 39 years of Sumter; two sons, Little Joe Bryant of Sumter and estranged son, Jimmy Bryant (Darlene) of Manning; three daughters, Angie Timmons (Jonathan) of Sumter, Cheryl Bryant of Manning and estranged daughter, Alicia Bryant of Sumter; two brothers, Gerald Fritz Bryant of Paxville and William Dean Bryant (Linda) of Umatilla, Florida; an estranged sister, Rosa Southerly (Ted) of Sumter; and seven grandchildren, Grace Geddings, twins, Annabelle and Amanda Timmons, Stephen Bryant, Justin Bryant, Kathryn Bryant and Timmy Geddings.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Michael Ren Bryant and Joey Bryant; and two brothers, Bobby Jordan Bryant and Sphinks T. Bryant Jr.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at Home Branch Baptist Church with Bill Cockerill Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Little Joe Bryant, special son, Robert Hankins, Spanky Bryant, Tony Anderson, special brother-in-law, James Bryant and Jonathan Timmons.

Honorary pallbearers will be Will Geddings, Murray Geddings and Jerry Woods.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m. in the church fellowship hall and other times at the home of his son, Little Joe Bryant, 1281 Felder St., Sumter.
