Joseph Wilson, widower of Suressa Shaw Wilson, was born on Oct. 22, 1944, in Brogdon, to Ruth Wilson Service and the late Bobby Wilson. He departed this life on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017.

Mr. Wilson was educated at Lincoln High School and graduated in 1962. In 1964, he was drafted into the United States Army. Wilson served as a telecommunications operator. He was enlisted from 1964 to 1972. He also received several medals for his service. Later in life, he worked at several places of employment to include Modern Dye for 14 years and as a construction worker. Wilson retired and began singing gospel with the Junior Wells and the Gospel Stars.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Ruth Wilson Service; four sons, Joseph Wilson Jr., Charles Wilson, Randell Wilson and Shaun McClam; one daughter, Theresa Wilson; grandchildren, Ninia Wilson, Randell Wilson, Shekim Nelson, Lakisha Epps, Keyoshia Wilson and Morgan Wilson; 10 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby Wilson; sister, Addy Robinson; and his loving wife of 40 years, Suressa Wilson.
Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Saturday at Job's Mortuary.
Mr. Wilson will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. on Sunday for viewing until the hour of service.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, Westend Community Church, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, with the Rev. Albert Robinson officiating.
Interment will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday at Florence National Cemetery
The family will be receiving friends at the home, 140 W. Red Bay Road, Sumter.
Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter, is in charge of arrangements.
