Kenneth (Kenny) James was born Nov. 17, 1958, to Lille Mae James Robinson and the late Gilbert Burgess. He passed away Friday, Jan. 26, 2018, at the home of his mother. He was a graduate of Sumter High School. Kenneth had two passions: working on cars and cooking. Anyone that knew Kenny knows that he never met a stranger, and he was never at a loss for words.
He leaves to cherish his memories his mother, Lillie Mae James Robinson of Sumter; a son, Kenneth Avery James of Woodbridge, Virginia; two daughters, Kennetta Chalys James of Woodbridge, Virginia, and Jellycatu Kennyia James of Springfield, Virginia; one grandson, Vaughn Latham James Ganzales of Woodbridge, Virginia; four sisters, Janis (Robert) Mivens of Athens, Alabama, Stephanie (Jerome) Bennett, Rosezetta (Harry) Titus, both of Sumter, and Sherondah (Timothy) Volt of Colonial Heights, Virginia; seven brothers, Michael Burgess of Lexington, North Carolina, Antonio (Delma) Burgess of Fayetteville, North Carolina, Reginald Burgess of Sanderford, North Carolina, James Robinson Jr. and Patrick Robinson of Sumter, Andre Burgess of Southern Pines, North Carolina, and Darrell Burgess of Charlotte; along with a life-long family friend Anne (Elijah) Walker of Sumter, two very close friends of Kenneth's, Wayne Durant of Sumter and Edward Goodwill of Bowie, Maryland; and many other relatives, loved ones and friends.
He is preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Ann Robinson of Asheville, North Carolina; his father, Gilbert Burgess of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and stepfather James W. Robinson of Sumter.
Public viewing will be held today from 2 to 6 p.m. at Job's Mortuary.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Job's Mortuary Parlor, 312 S. Main St. Sumter.
Family will receive friends at the home, 110 Fagan St., Sumter.
