Lee County students given one-hour delay to start school Tuesday

Lee County School District will operate on a one-hour delay for students on Tuesday, Jan. 9, including bus routes, due to continued cold weather overnight and through the morning.

All teachers and staff will not be delayed and are expected to follow their regular work schedules, according to the district’s Office of Personnel.

School was closed for students on Monday, with the District Office opening at 9 a.m.

The closures and delays follow three canceled days for everyone Jan. 3-5, rounding out the last two days of winter break to make for students returning to class one day shy of a week late.

Monday night’s low is expected to drop to 34 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. Tuesday’s high is forecasted at 54 degrees, the highest Sumter, Lee and Clarendon counties will have seen in more than a week.

Tuesday night is predicted to drop to around 39.

Sumter School District and Clarendon School District 2 have not yet announced any changes to Tuesday’s schedule. Follow TheItem.com for updates.
