LINDA B. LIGON

Posted

Linda Elaine Boatwright Ligon, known to many as "Sissy," was born on Jan. 11, 1954, in Marion, to Jimmie Conyers Boatwright and the late Dean Floyd Boatwright. She attended the public school system in Long Beach, New York. Sissy was reared in a Christian home by her grandmother, Ruby Peoples Conyers, where she attended church and served in several ministries. Her love for singing was shared in the youth choir as well as the adult choir. When she retired and relocated back to South Carolina, she became a member of Friendship AME Church and continued serving in similar ministries and capacities.

On Friday, May 25, 2018, "Sissy," the one who loved unconditionally, entered into eternal rest. "I had to pack up and get ready, so weep for me no more for I am with my Father."

She leaves to cherish her memories: her loving mother, Jimmie Boatwright of Sumter; her children, Yvette D. Boatwright, Keith J. Ligon and David Ligon Jr., all of Charlotte, North Carolina, Allen R. Ligon of Waterbury, Connecticut, and her baby girl, Melissa J. Ligon of Rocky Hill, Connecticut; her precious grandchildren, Steven Ligon and Corey Ligon, both of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Liyah Ligon and Alexa Ligon, both of Waterbury, and Micah R. Boatwright of Charlotte; her precious goddaughter, Simone R. Aviles of Newberry; two brothers, Dean (Ava) Boatwright of Charlotte and Norman (Priscilla) Williams of Chesapeake, Virginia; one sister, Doris Best of Schenectady, New York; three aunts, Flossie Conyers of Long Beach, New York, Josephine Robinson of Slocumb, Alabama, and Willie Lee Corley of Bamberg; four special friends, Mazie Tindal, Susan Holliday, Betty Reese and the Rev. Emma Mellerson, who was like a sister; her church family; her lovable cousin, Barbara Richburg; and a host of nieces, nephews, countless cousins, classmates and friends whom she loved deeply.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the late David Ligon Sr.; one daughter, Nicole A. Ligon; maternal grandparents, Ruby Peoples and Allie Conyers; and paternal grandparents, Aileen and Clyde Boatwright.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Ligon will be placed in the church at 11 a.m. on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Saturday at Friendship AME Church, 6156 Furse Road, Summerton, with Pastor Albert Thompson officiating. Interment will follow at Friendship AME Church Cemetery.
