LOUELLA S. HOLLIDAY

Louella Sweatte Holliday, widow of William Holliday, was born on Aug. 20, 1938, in Sumter County, to the late Calvin and Pheobe Lou Walters Sweatte. She departed this life on Friday, Aug. 17, 2018, in the privacy of her home.

Louella was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. She was a graduate of Lincoln High School and S.C. State College. She received her master's degree from Indiana University. She was a member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Louella was honored for being the first female bus driver in South Carolina and never missing a day from school or work. Louella was employed with Wicomico County Schools System, where she taught at Wicomico Senior and Junior High School and Salisbury High School. Louella played in a softball league and coached field hockey and softball at Wicomico High School. She also managed Acme Grocery Store, before retiring and moving back to South Carolina to care for her parents. Louella was a stockholder with Sumter Funeral Service Inc.

Louella was a member of St. James AME Zion Church in Salisbury, where she sang with the senior adult choir. After moving back to South Carolina, she reunited with her family church, Rock Hill Missionary Baptist Church, where she was a faithful member until her untimely demise.

Loving and precious memories will be cherished by her loving and devoted daughter, Dr. Carolyn D. Holliday of the home; her baby , Prince Holliday; her granddaughter, Princess Holliday; sisters-in-law, Cecelia Jones, Alice Hill and Mary Davis, all of New York; five aunts, Gussie Ragin, Lucille Walters, Olla Mae Walters, Mary Lee Walters and Mary Walters; two uncles, the Rev. M.G. Walters and Esau Walter; and a host of cousins, other relatives and dear friends who are deeply grieved by her passing.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her spouse; five aunts, Elma, Edna, Janie, Lillie Mae and Inez; and five uncles, Nichodemus, P.W., James Lewis, Joshua and Sammie Lee.

Graveside services for Mrs. Holliday will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia.

The funeral procession will leave at 12:30 p.m. from the home.

The family is receiving friends at the residence, 1157 Marlborough Drive.
