LOUISE WISE SEGARS

Louise Wise Segars, 81, wife of Charles Arthur "Yaya" Segars, died on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2018, at her home.

Born in Augusta, Georgia, she was a daughter of the late George William Wise, Louise Phifer Camp and Wofford Benjamin Camp. She and Yaya were married for 56 years and loved their children and grandchildren. Mrs. Segars graduated from the University of South Carolina and had a master's degree from Cambridge University in Boston. She was a devoted Clemson Tiger and was known for her fun and delicious tailgates at Death Valley.

Mrs. Segars was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church for more than 50 years, where she served on numerous boards and held various positions throughout the years, including the board of trustees. She was a longtime Senior High Sunday School teacher at Trinity and loved her church and the FaHoLo Sunday School Class.

She taught school for 30 years in California, Charleston, and in Sumter at Wilson Hall, High Hills and Alice Drive. Teaching and young people were a passion for Mrs. Segars. She saw the potential in every child and sought to bring out the best in all of her students.

She was member of the PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma, Les Trente and the Laid Back Bridge Club.

Surviving are her husband of Sumter; one daughter, Sarah Segars Barnes (Jack) of Sumter; four sons, Charles Arthur Segars Jr. (Barbara) of Sumter, William Camp Segars (Karen) of Hartsville, George Wise Segars (Darlene) of Sumter and Burrell "Billy" Raymie Segars (Nicolle) of Sumter; 15 grandchildren, including Jack Jr., Charlie and James Barnes; Anna Louise and Charles III Segars; William and Hunter Segars; Maggie, Liza, Wise, McClain and Carlisle Segars; and Jane Elizabeth, Raymie and Andrew Segars.

Mrs. Segars' children and grandchildren were the pride and joy of her life.She was predeceased by a sister, Sarah Cory; and a brother, George Wise Jr.

The family is grateful for the love and kindness of Anne Dinkins, Mary McCray, Majoree Nelson and Camilla Robinson.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Trinity United Methodist Church with the Rev. Joseph James, the Rev. Angela Marshall and Dr. Reginald Thackston officiating.

Private burial will be at Sumter Cemetery.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends following the service in the church fellowship hall.
