Manning blanks South Florence 20-0 to stay unbeaten


FLORENCE – Manning High School’s varsity football team remained undefeated on the season with a 20-0 victory over South Florence on Friday at Memorial Stadium.

Darias Williams had a 1-yard touchdown run and caught a 20-yard TD pass from Jack Owens to lead the Monarchs, who are 5-0 on the season. Owens also tossed a 40-yard touchdown pass to David Fulton.


Alice Drive 20

Tayvionne Ingram added a 30-yard TD run for the Hawks and a 2-point conversion.

Davin Jackson led the defense with seven tackles — two for a loss — and two forced fumbles. DreShaun Wright and Tajon Roach each had a tackle and a fumble recovery and Burgess also had an interception.

Alice Drive returns to action next Thursday when it travels to Hillcrest.

Bates 48

Hillcrest 0

DALZELL — Five different players had rushing touchdowns for Bates as the Bantams rolled past Hillcrest on Saturday 48-0 at Donald L. Crolley Memorial Stadium.

Chris Ramirez, Keion Brown, Jakarriez Sanders, Jaylin White and Zyeir Gamble all found the end zone for BMS. Brown also caught a 15-yard TD pass from K'Shawn Boyd.

Boyd, Ramirez, Jerome Vance and Jabarri Tiller all ran in 2-point conversions for the Bantams.

On defense, Brent Brooks had five tackles while A'veon McBride recorded four and recovered a fumble.


Thomas Sumter 3

Palmetto Christian 0

MT. PLEASANT – Thomas Sumter Academy improved to 11-0 on the season with a 3-0 sweep of Palmetto Christian on Thursday at the PC gymnasium.

TSA won by scores of 25-20, 25-15 and 25-22.

Anita Cookey-Gam led the Lady Generals with 16 kills and Taja Hunley added 12. Sydney Daniel set 17 assists and Josie Reed added 10.

Wilson 3

Lakewood 0

FLORENCE – Lakewood fell 3-0 to Wilson on Thursday at the Wilson gymnasium by scores of 26-24, 25-16 and 25-11.

Ariana Jackson had three aces and two kills for the Lady Gators. Emily McDonald had two aces and three assists while Rachell Harglerode finished with six aces.

Amyah Pickney collected three assists and Taylor McPhail had four kills.

Lakewood returns to action on Tuesday when it hosts Darlington.

Trinity-Byrnes 3

MANNING – Laurence Manning Academy fell to 0-5 on the season with a 3-0 loss to Trinity-Byrnes on Wednesday at Bubba Davis Gymnasium.

T-B won by the scores of 25-11, 25-9, 25-20.

Kayla Acord had six service points and three digs. Madisyn Hudon had seven assists and one dig and Abby Haney had four kills and two points.


Palmetto Christian 2

Thomas Sumter Academy 1

MT. PLEASANT – Thomas Sumter fell to Palmetto Christian 2-1 on Thursday at the PA gymnasium.

Game scores were 16-25, 25-17 and 25-21 in favor of the Lady Eagles.

Lindsay Daniel led the Lady Generals (6-5) with eight aces. Mercedes Byrd had eight kills and Logan Scruggs added seven assists.

Laurence Manning 2

Trinity-Byrnes 0

MANNING – Laurence Manning Academy picked up its first victory, beating Trinity-Byrnes 2-0 on Wednesday at Bubba Davis Gymnasium.

LMA won by the scores of 26-24, 25-21.

Brooke Thompson led the 1-4 Lady Swampcats with 17 points and seven aces.

Kelsie Austin added six points and two aces.


Laurence Manning 49

Orangeburg Prep 28

MANNING – AJ Nelson threw two touchdown passes and Bennett Stephens rushed for two more as Laurence Manning Academy rolled past Orangeburg Prep 49-28 on Thursday at Billy Chitwood Field.

Nelson finished with 168 yards through the air, with TD strikes going to Game Harris and Mark Lupori.

Jonathan Griffith added a 63-yard TD run for the Swampcats and Alex Petty scored from 45 yards out. Bryce Acord also had a touchdown while Josh Sharpe connected on four PATs and ran in a 2-point conversion.

On defense, Harris had six tackles while Nolan Osteen finished with two sacks and a blocked punt.

LMA returns to action this Thursday at Wilson Hall.


Laurence Manning 40

MANNING – Brandon King rushed for 218 yards and four touchdowns to lead Laurence Manning Academy to a 40-0 victory over Orangeburg Prep on Thursday at Billy Chitwood Field.

Tyler June and Noah Tanner also had rushing TDs for the Swampcats, who improved to 3-0. Nate Hawthorne had a 2-point conversion and Bryson Watt converted two extra points.

Chappell Brogdon had three tackles and an interception. Ben Thomas had four tackles, including two tackles for loss, and he also blocked a punt.

FLORENCE – Sumter High School lost to West Florence 5-1 on Thursday at the WF courts.

On Tuesday in Sumter, the Lady Gamecocks defeated Carolina Forest 4-2.

Wilson Hall lost matches to both Robert E. Lee Academy and Hammond on Wednesday at Nash Student Center.

Sullivan Jarecki had six aces for 2-2 WH over the two matches. Sarah Sonntag had five aces and two kills and Emma Bradley had two aces and a kill.
