Meeting to assess needs for Bishopville truck bypass

The South Carolina Department of Transportation has scheduled a public meeting from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, in the Lee Central High School cafeteria, 1800 Wisacky Highway, Bishopville, concerning the proposed Bishopville Truck Route.

SCDOT is seeking to meet with local residents to discuss the Environmental Impact Statement process to evaluate alternative routes for large trucks currently traveling through downtown Bishopville on US 15/North Main Street. A no-build alternative will also be evaluated. SCDOT, along with the Federal Highway Administration, is seeking public input regarding the purpose and need of the project.

The meeting will have an informal, drop-in format. SCDOT staff and project team members will be available to talk individually with the public to answer questions.

Comments received will be used to guide the further development of the project. SCDOT will continue to receive comments regarding this phase of the project until June 9. Those in attendance will have the opportunity to sign up for a project mailing list and receive newsletters and mailings regarding project status updates and any future meeting notifications.
