MILDRED H. JINWRIGHT

Mildred Roman Harrison Jinwright, widow of Van Junious Jinwright, departed this earthly life and entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at Yale New Haven Hospital, New Haven, Connecticut.

Born on May 8, 1935, in Sumter, she was a daughter of the late George Roman Sr. and Malvenia Reed Roman. Mildred attended the public schools of Sumter County and graduated from Hamden High School, Hamden, Connecticut. Mildred's desire for learning and personal development propelled her to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in human services from New Hampshire College in Manchester, New Hampshire, on May 17, 1986.

Mildred was employed for more than 35 years in the healthcare profession as a caregiver, instructor and supervisor in the clinical chemistry sterile supply department at Yale New Haven Hospital, until retirement. After retirement, she returned to her native home of Sumter. She rejoined Saint Paul AME Church and served as a member of the Missionary Society, the senior citizens, senior choir, church school and class leader. She was also a faithful member of the McKiever Club.

Precious memories will be shared by her loving children, Rena H. (Edward) Mack, Varagena Harrison, Robert Jr. (Myrna) Harrison, Bruce Harrison, Thadas Harrison and Venovia H. (Dimas) Chardon, all of Hamden, Vanessa Jinwright of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, Janice J. Morton of New Haven and Thaddaus Jones of Charlotte, North Carolina; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Sadie R. (Willis) White, Flora R. (Thomas) York, Gloria R. (Lucius) Felder and Barbara R. Jackson, all of Sumter; brother, Johnnie L. (Miriam) Roman Sr. of Sumter; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Dailey of New Haven, Loretta (Robert) James and Vesta Ree (Thomas) Bellamy of Winnabow, North Carolina; brothers-in-law, McKinley Wilson Sr. of Sumter, John Bell and Alexander Bell of New Haven and Christopher Gause of Wilmington, North Carolina; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mrs. Jinwright will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. on Friday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday at St. Paul AME Church, 835 Plowden Mill Road, Sumter, with Pastor Frederick Graves officiating. Entombment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park.

The family will be receiving at 1495 Reedroman Road (Radical Road), Sumter.
