Mildred Lynette McGill Boyd, aged 91, beloved wife of Carl James Boyd, died peacefully on Jan. 30, 2018.

Midge was born on May 14, 1926, in Brunswick, Georgia, to Floyd Dewey McGill and Arna Elizabeth White McGill. She was one of eight children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her three brothers, Floyd McGill, Wendall McGill and Don McGill; and one sister, Joyce McGill Campbell.

She is survived by three sisters, Mary Alice McGill of Kansas City, Missouri, Bonnie McGinnis of Walterboro and Elizabeth Laws of Cumming, Georgia; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She and Carl lived all over the country throughout their wonderful 72 years of marriage during Carl's service to the United States Navy. During this time, Midge served as beloved mother and homemaker to Sharon Lynette Boyd and Stanley James Boyd. She also served as the president of the Navy Wives' Club of Long Beach, California, and volunteered in multiple churches, schools and American Red Cross units throughout the country. After Carl's retirement, they settled in Falls Church, Virginia. While living in Falls Church, their son Stan died suddenly at home on Jan. 17, 1974.

Midge continued to be active in the Northern Virginia community, including serving as director of blood donation services for the entire Northern Virginia area while Carl continued a second career with Honeywell, Inc. During this time, they traveled all over the world, including her favorite trip on safari in Africa. Most recently, Midge and Carl retired to Sumter, and have been residents of Covenant Place.

A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she is survived by her daughter, Sharon Boyd Young and husband, Kenneth R. Young Jr. of Sumter; two grandchildren, Stanley Boyd Young and his wife, Laura Wood Young, of Columbia and Jennifer Young Pierce and husband, Christopher Ross Pierce, of Mobile, Alabama; and four great-grandchildren, Marion Fahy McGill Pierce, Elizabeth Ross Lynette Pierce, Stanley James Young and Everest Ann Young.
