Manning High School has been getting votes in the 3A poll of the S.C. Media Prep Football Poll since the preseason poll, but had failed to crack the top 10.

Until now.

The undefeated Monarchs, coming off a 20-0 victory over 5A South Florence, jumped into the poll at No. 6.

Sumter moved up a spot to No. 9 in the 5A poll coming off a 49-21 victory over Lakewood. Lee Central, coming off a 28-27 loss to Buford, dropped from No. 5 to No. 8 in the 2A poll.

Scott's Branch fell out of the 1A poll after one week at No. 10, but still received votes. The Eagles suffered a 20-18 loss to 3A Edisto.

Manning will try to run its record to 6-0 when it takes on fellow 3A school May River on Friday at Ramsey Stadium in Manning. The Sharks are 1-3 after falling to 4A Beaufort 9-7 last week.

Sumter moved up a spot after No. 9 Irmo suffered a loss and dropped out of the poll. The Gamecocks have an off week before opening their Region VI schedule next week.

Lee Central dropped to 4-1 with the 1-point Region IV loss to 4-0 Buford, which moved into the poll at No. 9. It doesn't get any easier for the Stallions as they go on the road to face No. 6 and undefeated Chesterfield.

There are four teams from Region IV in the 2A poll, the other being Cheraw, which is tied for third with Carvers Bay.

Conway is the other Region VI team in the 5A poll at No. 5. Hartsville, a Region VI-4A foe of Crestwood and Lakewood, remains at No. 3.

Manning's Region VII foe, Timberland, dropped from No. 5 to eighth in the 2A poll after suffering a loss.

Scott's Branch has two of its Region V foes - C.E. Murray and Cross - ranked in the 1A poll. C.E. Murray remained at No. 6 while Cross dropped three spots to No. 10 with a loss.

Two of East Clarendon's Region VI opponents - Hemingway and Lake View - are also in the 1A poll. Hemingway remains second while Lake View moved up a spot to No. 4.

All five of the No. 1 teams remained the same. Fort Dorchester in 5A, South Pointe in 4A and Chapman in 2A all were unanimous picks. Chapman in 3A got 12 of the 13 first-place votes while Lamar got 11 of the 13 top votes in the 1A poll.

Crestwood will be playing host to Lamar on Friday in its homecoming game at Donald L. Crolley Memorial Stadium in Dalzell.
