Born on Feb. 4, 1955, in Lee County, she was the youngest daughter of the late Joe and Nettie Bacote Coakley. She graduated from Mayewood High School in 1973 and attended both Claflin College and the University of South Carolina. She was employed at Job's Mortuary until illness forced her to retire. She was a member of Irmo Church of God, where she made God her priority. She loved family time with her grandchildren. The three of them were her world.
She leaves to honor and cherish her memory: a loving and devoted daughter, Kenyatta Brown Washington (Derrick) of Frederick, Maryland; her grandsons, Keaton and Karter, both of Frederick; granddaughter, Kennedy of Frederick; one sister, Edna Coakley of Charlotte, North Carolina; three brothers, Isaac Bacote (Christine) and Joseph Coakely of Jersey City, New Jersey, and Willie Coakley (Earline) of Sumter; godson, Juan McCoy of Columbia; and a host of nieces, nephews and many friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert Bacote and George Bacote.
The family will be having visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary and before the service from 1 to 2 p.m. on Thursday at the church.
Memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday at Irmo Church of God, 10215 Broad River Road, Irmo, SC 29063 with Pastor Randy Coudler officiating.
Job's Mortuary Inc., 312 S. Main St., Sumter, is in charge of arrangements.
