Payeur, WH sporting clays team finish first

EDGEFIELD - Mason Payeur won the highest overall score and led Wilson Hall's sporting clays team to a first-place finish in the senior varsity high school division of the SCDNR/SCISA Trap State Qualifier on Saturday at Palmetto Shooting Complex.

Payeur and teammates John Thomas Parker and Matthew Blankenship qualified for the state trap finals on Feb. 8-9.

The WH junior varsity team of Haile McElveen, Bynum Kelley and James Hiott finished seventh.

VARSITY BASKETBALL

Laurence Manning 71

Pinewood Prep 60

MANNING – Taylor Lee scored 22 points and handed out seven assists to lead Laurence Manning Academy to a 71-60 varsity boys basketball victory over Pinewood Prep on Monday at Bubba Davis Gymnasium.

Jerrel Kelly had a double-double of 11 points and 13 rebounds for the Swampcats, who improved to 11-5 on the season. He also had five assists and four blocked shots.

Jake Jordan added 12 points, while Chase Lee and Brewer Brunson both had eight and Grayson Dennis seven.

Lakewood 67

Liberty Heights 66

CHARLESTON - Lakewood High School's Grant Singleton scored 18 points and was named the most valuable player in the Lowcountry Shootout in a 67-66 victory over Liberty Heights of Charlotte on Saturday at the Porter-Gaud gymnasium.

Ahkeem Lawson added 15 points for the Gators, who improved to 12-8. Jaron Richardson had 11 and Terrell Houston had nine.

MS BASKETBALL

Alice Drive 45

Ebenezer 27

Alice Drive Middle School improved to 11-1 with a 45-27 victory over Ebenezer on Monday at the ADMS gymnasium.

Ryan McCants led the Hawks with 13 points. Deandre Porter added nine and Keon Jett had eight.

Chestnut Oaks 59

Manning 50

Chestnut Oaks defeated Manning Junior High School 59-50 on Monday at the COMS gymnasium.

Zayveon Wells led the Falcons with 17 points and eight steals. Kori Green had a double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds, Lawrence Burroughs had 10 points and eight rebounds and Kamaron Rodriguez had 12 points.

Mayewood 37

Bates 29

Mayewood Middle School defeated Bates 37-29 on Monday at the BMS gymnasium.

Kayshawn Boyd led the Bantams with eight points. Jordan Dantzler had seven.
