PINEWOOD - A 39-year-old Pinewood man died early Sunday morning in a one-vehicle wreck on Elliott Road, less than a half-mile from his home.

"Leland Lagare Green died at the scene from blunt-force trauma," Clarendon County Deputy Coroner Albert Mobley said Sunday afternoon. "He was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. Two passengers who were wearing seat belts received minor injuries."

Mobley said no autopsy will be held and that toxicology results are pending.

Lance Cpl. David Jones with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said the wreck occurred at 1:15 a.m. on Elliott Road, south of Pinewood. Jones said Green was driving a 1996 Honda Accord when he lost control of the vehicle, ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned several times.

"The accident," Jones said, "is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol."
