Queen E. Harper, widow of the Rev. Johnnie Harper Sr., entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2018.

Born on Feb. 12, 1943, in Wedgefield, she was a daughter of the late Jack B. and Victoria Heyward Anderson. She attended Orangehill Elementary, St. Michael's Junior High, and graduating from Ebenezer High School in 1961. In 1962, she relocated to Baltimore for employment. In 1968, she married the Rev. Harper and this holy union was blessed with two sons. Together raising her daughter from a previous marriage, her three children were dear to her heart. Sister Harper graduated from Baltimore City School of Nursing / John Hopkins in 1975. She also graduated Class of 1982, Baltimore City Police Department. Queen held several jobs she loved, to include City Hospital, Baltimore City Police Department, U.S. Public Health, Highland Health, Rosewood State Hospital and Maryland Rehabilitation Hospital, retiring in 2001. She was never too busy for her husband and children.

At an early age, "Queen" accepted Christ as her personal Savior. She joined Mount Carmel Baptist Church, serving faithfully for 48 years in several capacities, including ministry leader of the pastoral assistance ministry, Bible school teacher, pastor aide president for 12 years under the leadership of Bishop Leroy Gilliard (Pastor) and a member of the Golden Ages Choir. She attended both Bible study and Sunday school.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories: her children, Towanda Sodeman, Johnnie (Sadie) Harper Jr. and Christopher Harper; six grandchildren, Willie (Lanita) Sassafrass, Loren (Ayanna) Maclin, Kiauna Hemsley, Christina, Jonathan and Jaelon Harper; eight great-grandchildren, Bryan, Christian, Maya, Makaylia, Malia, Maria, Annia and Amia; two sisters, Mildred (Verne) Grant and Thomasena Briscoe; three brothers, William (Vermelle), Walter (Ernestine) and Carlisle (Annette); one aunt, Annie M. Owens; and a host of other relatives and friends, who will treasure the memories in their hearts and minds forever.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Orangehill AME Church, 3035 S.C. 261, Wedgefield, SC 29168 with Pastor Gregory R. Williams officiating and the Rev. Lemuel Washington, eulogist. Interment will follow at Orangehill AME Church Cemetery.
