Raymond Franklin Moore Jr., 90, died on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2018, at Covenant Place.

Born on Dec. 17, 1927, in Fishersville, Virginia, he was a son of Raymond Franklin Moore Sr. and Louise Linhoss Moore. He was twice married, first to the late Verna Caricofe Moore and then to Barbara White Moore. He received a Doctor of Philosophy in Entomology from Rutgers University. He spent the majority of his career in the Agricultural Research Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture. He was the former director of the European Parasite Laboratory outside of Paris, France. He was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Florence Golden Kiwanis Club and a Boy Scout troop leader in Florence. He was a avid geometric artist.

He is survived by three sons, R. Scott Moore of Knoxville, Tennessee, S. Kent Moore (Kim) of Roswell, Georgia, and Kurt E. Moore (Miriam) of Sumter; two sisters, Helen M. Wetsel of Harrisonburg, Virginia, and Peggy M. Marks of Hermitage, Virginia; and five grandchildren, Meredith Moore, Suzanne Moore, Gulie Moore, Corbett Moore and Kurt Moore Jr.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Kathryn Leigh Moore; and a sister, Marianne Van Buren.

Services will be private in Virginia.
