Now called Best of Sumter, the contest boasts more than 200 categories that can be nominated and voted for online at www.TheItem.com/BestOf.
Categories span auto and transportation, business, community, education, food and beverage, medical and professionals, ranging from Best Boat Dealership to Best Place for Kids to Have Fun to Best Pet Sitter to Best Sweet Tea.
"Sumter County has so many amazing people, businesses and companies that have either been around for ages or that have recently opened their doors," Publisher Vince Johnson said. "We want to celebrate them as much as we can in the largest spotlight possible. These winners - and our readers who choose them - are what make Sumter great."
Nominations are being accepted now, and voting will begin Feb. 1. Write-in nominations will be added to the ballot by Item staff.
Once voting begins, which will also be done online at www.TheItem.com/BestOf, every person can vote once daily for every category.
Print ballots will still run in The Sumter Item editions on:
- Feb. 1
- Feb. 4
- Feb. 9
- Feb. 13
- Feb. 15
- Feb. 18
- Feb. 21

Winners with the most votes in their category will be announced in The Sumter Item's glossy Best of Sumter magazine in April, receive a Best of Sumter window cling and framed photo recognition and be invited to a Best of Sumter event.
