Rembert man charged with attempted murder

Reginald “Reggie” Durant, 30, 5420 Mayrant Road, Rembert, is charged with attempted murder after he allegedly stabbed a woman Thursday evening.

According to a news release from Sumter County Sheriff's Office Public Information Officer Ken Bell, deputies responded to a call about a reported stabbing about 6 p.m. Thursday. Upon arriving at the intersection of John Leary Lane and Mayrant Road in Rembert, the deputies found EMS treating a female for multiple stab wounds.

The suspect, who had bloodstained clothing and an apparent laceration on his right hand, was pointed out to the officers by a nearby resident as he walked toward the ambulance.

The release stated the initial investigation indicated that the incident happened inside of the victim’s home in the 5400 block of John Leary Lane.

Durant was read his Miranda rights and taken to Palmetto Health Tuomey for treatment of his injuries. He is being held in Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing. The alleged weapon used in the crime has not been located.
