Training to save lives

Firefighters from Sumter's city and county fire stations conduct rescue training at the training center grounds off McCrays Mill Road on Tuesday morning. During the training session, the firefighters practiced using struts, hooks, chains and winches to slowly rotate rolled-over vehicles in order to reach potential patients. The first scenario involved a vehicle that had been hit by a tractor-trailer, and the second scenario involved a vehicle that rolled into a tree line. Both situations required the firefighters to be creative when attaching the equipment to the vehicles.
