Scores are based on a 100-point scale and are assigned a letter grade that is posted at each facility based on the calculated numerical score and the establishment's past scores.
* An "A" means the retail food establishment earned more than 87 points and that food practices appeared to meet requirements.
* A "B" grade means the business earned 87-78 points and that food safety practices need improvement.
* A "C" grade signifies less than 78 points were earned and that food safety practices need "significant improvement."
There may be times when the posted letter grade may differ from the numerical score of the most recent inspection.
Routine inspections are unannounced and generally range from one to four times a year.
Follow-up inspections are conducted within 10 days of a routine inspection that requires further verification.
Following are the restaurant inspections performed between Jan. 8 and 14, 2018 in Sumter, Lee and Clarendon on counties by the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC).
DHEC conducts inspections on each of the more than 18,000 establishments in the state annually or quarterly, depending on the business's food processes and their compliance history.
