Robert Washington, affectionately called "Bo," husband of Jessie P. Gibson Washington, was born on June 22, 1945, in Mayesville. He was raised by his mother, the late Gladys Washington, and grandmother, the late Rosanna "Binai" Washington and was a son of the late Edgar James.

"Bo" departed this earthly life on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, surrounded by his loving family at home.

Robert attended the public schools in Sumter County and was a 1965 graduate of Eastern High School. He attended Sumter Area Technical College. Robert was employed by Exide, Pepsi Cola and retired from Becton-Dickinson after more than 30 years of service. Robert joined Mt. Sinai Presbyterian Church in Mayesville at an early age. He served faithfully as a trustee, until his health failed.

He leaves to cherish his precious memories: a loving and devoted wife, Jessie G. Washington; daughters, Patricia "Pat" (Gregory) Davis and Erica "Robin" Washington of Sumter; sons, Robert "RJ" and James Eric Washington of Mayesville; two beautiful granddaughters who were the apples of his eyes, Chelsee and Jessica Davis; a faithful and devoted brother, Clarence Washington of Queens, New York; mother-in-law, Pattie J. Gibson of Mayesville; one uncle, Sam Washington of Brooklyn, New York; aunts, Clara "Coot" (Walter) Hudson of Manhattan, New York, Jeannie Jefferson of Gable, Nancy Jefferson of Allendale and Helen Walker of Mayesville; brothers and sisters-in-law, George (Sarah) Gibson, William (Lillie) Gibson, Wilhelmenia Washington, Irene Gibson, Sandra Gibson and Murline "Murk" Ingram, "Sis"; special cousins, Rosie A. Davis, Shirley D. Abrams, Jerrildine "Jerry" Jefferson-Jones and Charlie "Jr." W. Davis; special friends, Nancy Williams, Ruby Cooper, Annie "Mickey" Fortune, Walter "Joe" Davis, Michael Bradley, Willie Green and Lewis Washington; and a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Pamela M. Washington; father-in-law, Clarence Gibson Sr.; maternal grandparents, Hazel (Rosanna) "Binai" Washington; paternal grandparents, Willie (Essie) James; sisters-in-law, Brinette Washington and Julia Williams; brothers-in-law, Clarence Gibson Jr., the Rev. Malachi Gibson and James Dennis Gibson; and a host of uncles and aunts.

Public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. today at Job's Mortuary.

Mr. Washington will be placed in the church at noon on Thursday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Salem Chapel & Heritage Center, 101 S. Salem Ave., Sumter, SC 29150 with the Rev. Philip Washington presiding and the Rev. Dr. Franklin Colclough, eulogist. Interment will follow at Mt. Sinai Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 3985 Fourth St. Mayesville, SC 29104.
