Mother Rosa Mae Pack Smith was born on April 11, 1942, in Sumter. She departed this earthly life quietly, peacefully and suddenly on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019, surrounded by her daughters at Palmetto Heart Hospital in Columbia.

Mother Smith was a daughter of the late Moses and Lucille Singleton Pack. She was educated in the public schools of Sumter County. Mother Smith was married to the late Hercules Smith Sr. and to this union they were blessed with four loving and devoted children. She was a lifelong, dedicated member of Enon Missionary Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the senior ushers, women's missionary and the Petals and Pearls Ministries. She was also a devoted member and participant in Sunday church school.

Her memories will be cherished and lived on through three daughters, Diannia Smith (Johnnie) Grinnell, Anita Smith and Dr. Vanessa Smith-Canty, all of Sumter; five grandchildren, Sgt. 1st Class Tajuana (Anthony) Davis of Fort Washington, Maryland, Johnnie (Angela) Grinnell and Brittany Smith, both of Sumter, Brittany Moses of Columbia and Ivory D. Canty Jr. of Charlotte, North Carolina; seven great-grandchildren, Shemar Frazier, Jashawn Grinnell, Peyton Grinnell, Haven Alston, Breyon Moses, Jahleah Eutsey and Ava Davis; one sister, Bernice (Isaiah) Anderson of Baltimore; one brother, Russell (Viola) Pack of Sumter; two sisters-in-law, Sally Sumpter and Bernice Brunson, both of Sumter; three brothers-in-law, Leroy (Margurite) of Sumter, John Henry (Bessie) Smith Jr. and Kizer Dukes of Brooklyn, New York; four aunts, Cora Lee Pack, Delilah Singleton and Elouise Scott, all of Sumter, and Shirley Brown of Connecticut; one uncle, Clement Couch of Wilmington, Delaware; nieces and nephews, Irene (Terrance) Lewis, Lisa Pack, Dwayne Jones, Russell McPherson, Steven White and Brian Singleton; three special cousins, George Smith, Jackie Hampton and the Rev. Eleanor Walker; and two wonderful best friends, Pastor Connie Walker and Kathy Wilson.

Mother Smith was preceded in death by a son, Hercules Smith Jr.; and granddaughter, Toshia Ann Grinnell.

Public viewing was held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Friday at Job's Mortuary.

Mother Smith was placed in the church at 11 a.m. on Saturday for viewing until the hour of service.

Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday at Enon Missionary Baptist Church, 2990 Pinewood Road, Sumter, SC 29154. Pastor Julie Ann Hayes served as eulogist and Minister Stanley E. Hayes Jr. officiated. Interment followed at Cain Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the home, 4745 Moses Lane, Sumter, SC 29154.
