Ruby Ellington Brown Scott, 103, widow of Leroy F. Scott Sr., died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at McElveen Manor Nursing Home, Sumter. She was born Oct. 5, 1913, in Charleston, a daughter of the late Clarence O'Neil Brown and Lydia Elliott Brown.
She received her formal education in Charleston and graduated from Allen University.
Her teaching experience spanned more than 40 years and she retired in 1976.
She was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She was a member of the Church of the Good Shepherd, Sumter.
Survivors are Yvette Jones, Leroy Epps and Edna Scott Jr.; sisters, Thelma Scott Sumter and Julia Brown; five grandchildren; eight greatgrandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Alpha Kappa Alpha Rites will be held at 12:30 p.m. prior to the service.
Funeral services for Mrs. Scott will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday at The Church of the Good Shepherd (Episcopal), 401 Dingle St., Sumter, with the Rev. Dr. Roy Hill.
Burial will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, Sumter.
The family is receiving friends at 375 Loring Mill Road, Sumter.
These services have been entrusted to Samuels Funeral Home LLC of Manning.
