SAM PRICE JR.
Sam Price Jr., age 88, beloved husband of 29 years to Arletta McCormick Price, passed away on Friday, May 11, 2018 at his residence.
He was born in Johnson City, Tennessee, to the late Sam Price Sr. and Mary Lee Bowen Price. Sam was a member of the United States Air Force, serving both in the Korean and the Vietnam wars. He retired as a senior master sergeant after 22 years of service. Sam served as a past president of the Sumter Lions Club and was a very faithful member of St. James Lutheran Church. He enjoyed reading in his spare time and was an avid golfer. He will be remembered as a very loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Sam is survived by his loving wife, Arletta; three sons, David M. Price and his wife Laura of Seneca, Sam Price III and his wife Kathy of Boerne, Texas, and Steven A. Price and his wife Kim of Cary, North Carolina; three daughters, Sharon Hobgood and her husband Michael of Oxford, North Carolina, Valerie Kinsley of Sumter and Shelly Vargo of Irmo; 11 grandchildren, Michael, Jennifer, Sarah, Samantha, Amy, Will, Matt, Tara, Alex, Brandon and Shannon; and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his first wife, Joan B. Price; a daughter, Pamela Daugherty; two brothers, Ray Price and William Price; and two sisters, Edna Cantrell and Allie Mull.
A memorial service will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at St. James Lutheran Church with the Rev. Keith Getz officiating and full military honors.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from noon-1 p.m. in the church parlor.
