FROM STAFF REPORTS

With this year's enrollment period for health insurance through the Affordable Care Act ending Dec. 15, BlueCross Blue Shield of South Carolina will have its SC Blue Mobile Retail Center in Sumter from Nov. 5 to 10, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., at 2475 Broad St. The center has all the capabilities to sign up residents for more than two dozen plans according to a news release from BCBS. If people are in line at 6 p.m., they will not be turned away. Coverage becomes effective on Jan. 1, 2019.

"There are only 45 days in the open enrollment period, so we want to be available and helpful to everyone looking for protection against accidents and illness," Terry Peace, BlueCross senior vice president, said in the release. "We have many ways people can sign up for health insurance, including visiting our stores in Columbia, Mount Pleasant and Greenville as well as our mobile retail center, which will be traveling the state. We want people to get the information they need to make good decisions for themselves and their families, and encourage them to meet with our staff or a local insurance agent, both of which are free services, and/or do their own research through our website."
