Sheriff swears in officers, requests audit for center

As of Friday, Sumter County Sheriff Anthony Dennis has sworn in the remaining employees of Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center after Sumter County Council approved an ordinance authorizing him manage the facility on Tuesday.

Also, in anticipation of his duties as head of the detention center, Dennis requested that South Carolina Enforcement Division conduct an audit of the facility after he asked county council for custody of the jail in June. Dennis said requesting an audit is normal procedure someone should take before taking over a preexisting organization where money is handled.

As the year progresses, the sheriff plans to further integrate the detention center into the sheriff's office's operations.
