SHS boys, girls cross country teams place 1st in Florence

FLORENCE - Both the Sumter boys and girls cross country teams won Tuesday's meet held at South Florence.

The Gamecocks had a team score of 51 to finish first out of six teams. Brandon Poston was top overall finisher with a time of 17:16 while Theron Bradford was sixth with a time of 19:26.

The Lady Gamecocks placed first out of five teams with a score of 42. Lorien Clark paced SHS with an overall top time of 22:06. Emily Jordan was fourth with a time of 23:02.

Both teams will travel back to Florence to compete in meet on Tuesday at West Florence at 5 p.m.

JUNIOR VARSITY FOOTBALL

Lee Central 44

North Central 6

KERSHAW - Lee Central improved to 3-0 with a 44-6 victory over North Central on Thursday at the NC field.

Jalen McCray rushed for 175 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Stallions. Quentavious Davis ran for 125 yards and two scores.

Najee Brunson also scored two TDs and intercepted two passes. Leonardo Ignacio led the defense with eight tackles, Lamont Solomon had a sack and Rasheed Hill had an interception.

B TEAM FOOTBALL

Laurence Manning 14

Porter-Gaud 0

CHARLESTON - Laurence Manning Academy improved to 5-0 with a 14-0 victory over Porter-Gaud on Thursday at the P-G field.

Brandon King ran for a touchdown and tossed a 27-yard scoring pass to Noah Tanner for the other. Brandt Reynolds had a 2-point conversions.

Jacob Kaier had two tacks to lead the defense. Landon Lassigne had an interception and Joe Wilson had five tackles.

Wilson Hall 28

Orangeburg Prep 14

ORANGEBURG - Wilson Hall improved to 4-2 with a 28-14 victory over Orangeburg Prep on Thursday at the OP field.

Cameron Coulter connected with Clark Kinney for touchdown passes of 43 and 55 yards. Will Singleton scored on a 6-yard run and Dylan Jones scored on a 12-yard run. Coulter passed to Dylan Richardson and Kinney for 2-point conversions.

Connor Hanson had two tackles for loss to lead the defense and Blake VanPatten broke up three passes.

MIDDLE SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL

Hillcrest 3

Ebenezer 0

DALZELL - Hillcrest improved to 5-3 with a 3-0 victory over Ebenezer on Thursday at the HMS courts.

The Lady Wildcats won by the scores of 25-12, 25-18, 25-13.

Kristin Reynolds had 15 points and one ace to lead Hillcrest. Amonti Washington had nine points, three aces and one kill, Olivia O'Clair had nine points and one ace and Destyni Crim had seven points.

MIDDLE SCHOOL FOOTBALL

Lee Central Middle 50

C.E. Murray 8

GREELEYVILLE - The Lee Central Middle School football team improved to 2-0 after defeating C.E. Murray 50-8 on Wednesday at the CEM field. Quarterback Kwatre Harry had 110 yards passing with two touchdowns to lead the Stallions. Deangelo Century rushed for 100 yards and two scores as well.

Samir Toney had 75 yards rushing and a score while Somaki Hickman had 45 yards receiving and a touchdown as well. KJ Albert had 65 yards receiving and one score while Jalen Jones had a 45-yard touchdown run and a 2-point conversion. Nasir Rodriguez closed out the scoring with a touchdown run.

On defense, Albert had 12 tackles and Jaquan Powell had nine. Kwatre Harry and Hickman both had interceptions.

VARSITY VOLLEYBALL

Ben Lippen 3

Wilson Hall 1

Wilson Hall lost to Ben Lippen 3-1 on Wednesday at Nash Student Center by scores of 13-25, 25-17, 26-24 and 25-20.

Courtney Clark led the Lady Barons with 20 kills and Becka Noyes added eight. Liza Lowder and Abbie Beatson each had 14 digs.

Wilson Hall fell to 11-11 overall and will compete in the Baron Bash on Saturday at NSC.
