FROM STAFF REPORTS

Sumter Volunteers has announced its Sumter Keepsake ornament for 2018. The nonprofit organization has for many years presented an ornament each fall that celebrates the history, development and culture of Sumter.

This year, Sumter Volunteers Director Jo Anne Morris says the ornament commemorates the 25th year of the project which is seen in the silver box it is presented in. The gold-colored ornament inside is a beautiful depiction of the Sumter Opera House complete with the year 1894 on the building's awning. Included in the box is a small brochure with a brief history of the Sumter Opera House.

Morris recommends the ornaments as Christmas gifts and notes that ornaments from past years are still available at the Sumter Volunteers office, 12 W. Liberty St., Suite H.

This years' ornament sells for $15. Previous years ornaments range from $15 to $20.

Ornaments are also available at Simpson Hardware and Sports, 40 W. Wesmark Boulevard; Swan Lake Visitors Center, 822 W. Liberty St.; and the Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce, 32 E. Calhoun St.
