Sumter County Coroner's Office is working to notify the next of kin of an individual who died after their vehicle struck an unoccupied car and multiple trees on St. Pauls Church Road about 7:15 a.m. on Sunday morning.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, said Sumter County Coroner Robbie Baker.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday in Newberry.

The deceased was traveling westbound on St. Pauls Church Road, near Cains Mill Road, in a 2008 Ford F-250 pickup truck when the vehicle went off the right side of the road, striking an unoccupied 1999 Ford Crown Victoria in a "sideswipe type manner," said South Carolina Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Matt Southern.

The truck went up an embankment, striking multiple trees, before overturning, he said.

Southern said the deceased was wearing a seatbelt and sustained fatal injuries during the wreck.

The crash is still under investigation by highway patrol.
