Sumter County Council to consider final reading of revised jail contract

Sumter County Council will meet at 6 p.m. today in County Council Chambers, Sumter County Administration Building, 13 E. Canal St., to consider:

  • Third and final reading of an ordinance to approve the revised Sumter-Lee Regional Detention Center Contract;
  • Second reading of a request to amend the county's development standards ordinance to allow fluttering devices, including feather flags, on county property. A public hearing will be held prior to council's vote;
  • First reading of a request to amend the county zoning and development ordinance to make used motor vehilce parts a permitted use on a 9.5-acre portion of property operated by Carolina Truck & Trailer Parts at 350 Myrtle Beach Highway;
  • First reading of a request to rezone a 1.9-acre portion of a 4.85-acre tract at 3425 Thomas Sumter Highway from general commercial to residential-9. The request also includes a recommendation from Sumter City-County Planning Commission that council consider amending the county's zoning ordinance to allow stand-alone cemeteries to the general commercial zoning district.
In addition to voting on agenda items, county council will also see a presentation from Sumter Veterans Association; receive an update from Sumter County Voter Registration and Election Commission; and receive an update from Santee-Lynches Regional Council of Governments Workforce Development.
